Camp Rock Review!
After much anticipation Camp Rock premiered on the Disney Channel last night!! I thought the premise was cute and the messages were great. And of course I loved the Jonas Brothers. I thought Kevin’s birdhouse scenes were hilarious! But for some strange reason I found myself nitpicking a lot of it!! Here are some of my thoughts:
- I wanted to see more. I thought they showed some characters more than they should have, and they didn’t show some characters enough!! I wanted to see more of Caitlynn and her storyline. I definitely wanted to see more of Jason and Nate (Kevin and Nick). I thought we saw way too much of Tess! (And she was a character I looked forward to seeing!)
- The dancing could have been better. I thought the dancing was kind of just “blah”. It wasn’t very crisp, it wasn’t very clean. It also wasn’t really in sync in places!! Perhaps I watch too much So You Think You Can Dance, but I expected more.
- The love story was unrealistic. Shane just randomly falls in love with a girl who tells him off and listens to his song? The time line seemed out of order for a Cinderella type story. He should have spent his time chasing down the “girl who sang the song” and THEN fell in love with Mitchie.
- The plot line was off. Even though the movie lasted two hours, I felt like it was rushed and not very put together. We only saw a couple of real camp scenes with classes. Most of the movie centered around the “acts” at night. It made the other scenes feel rushed.

i agree with EVERYTHING you said! also, another part that really bothered me was when tess took mitchie’s songbook. what was the point of that? i thought she was going to sing for shane with that song..so weird

I thought she was going to sing it too! And she said some of the lyrics for the song, so I thought she was going to memorize it or something. But I guess she didn’t.

I like it, well definitely be watching it again but i wanted to see more of the campers as well and also more of camp life, maybe more classes.
But I still love it

i agree with all of that but really who cares?? like i would enjoy it either way. its all about the buildup and stuff. thats what i think is fun!! i had so much fun with my friends watching it together it really dosent matter to me :)

i thought Tess was going to steal the song “This is Me” and that when she said Mitchie stole something from her that she would be talking about the song and Tess would forget the words or something and totally screw up, then they would find out it was Mitchie’s song and she would sing or something! I think it could have been better, but i still LOVED it!!!!!

Disney Hyped it up so much It may have gotten alot of viewers but it was very predicitiable and some of the things in it were very pointless I like HSM way better

i thought it was okay. they didn’t really live up to what i thought it was going to be. i would have liked to see less of tess, more nick, more of a love story that would actually happen, more of caitlynn, and more camp classes and a lot more background. i wasn’t a very big fan of the songs and dances but i loved hasta la vista, camp rock, this is me, and joe and demi’s duet!

I think the choreography was better in Camp Rock compared to high school musical 1 and 2.
I thuoght the same as everyone else what was the point of that scene with Tess I thought maybe it was the point where she realised she had to “destroy” her. But i dont know

it was cute. it didnt feel like 2 hours long!!! that “too cool” song was annoying. the songs werent as good as hsm tho.

omg the second to last song tht demi sang reminded me of like a song tht vanessa would sing in hsm and also like it reminded me of like an ashlee simpson song or the song from raise ur voice like the last song but w/e hsm was so much better and also this movie on like 4 nights god way to like promote it just a bit o also lol the end song when they r singing together looking in each others eyes is like the breaking free song in hsm ok i am stopping

I agree with you EXACTLY. Where was the plot? It seemed to have been lost about 5 minutes into the movie. The transitions weren’t very well done either.

I actually really liked it.. I didn’t think anything was wrong about the movie.. But yeah when tess took mitchie’s book i thought she was gonna go find shane and sing it to him.. But i really loved it.. I loved the songs and the meaning of it was awesome! I will absolutly be watching it again and buying the dvd! They are all great actors

THAT WAS THE BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the reason that Tess looked at Mitchie’s songbook was because that she overheard Shane singing the song and she remebered that Micthie sang that the first night in the cabin and when she realized that it was Mitchie that Shane overheard she realized that if she wanted to win Final Jam, she had to get rid of Mitchie. The movie made more sense to me then HSM did because we KNOW why Tess is mean. We never find out why Sharpay was mean. I deffinatly would have liked to see more of Nick and Kevin though. And Peggy wasn’t really playing the guitar during the Final Jam. and the dancing was more beliveable in Camp Rock then HSM because in CR they practiced and practiced the dancing while in HSM they NEVER practiced and some how they ALL knew the moves to EVERY dance.

I liked how they showed them rehearsing for the final number.. In high school musical they don’t really show you that.. I know alot of people didn’t like it much but i really liked it.. I think you can relate to it better than high school musical.. But thats just how i feel.. I loved the songs and th dancing.. I think the love story between mitchie and shane made sense.. I thought it was cute and it was a really good movie to watch.. I would watch it again in a heart beat.. It made me cry and laugh and any movie that does that is a good movie.. I too wish they would of showed more of nick and kevin.. But the parts they were in were funny.. They were all great! I would of liked to learn more about the other cast members too.. I think tess was in it a little too much but its all good

you are all right, but I think that this time I have to say that HSM was better.. in this movie… well.. I WANTED MORE!! i fell like it wasn’t complete, I wanted that at the end see how everybody got on the bus and said the “goddbye, see you next summer, great to meet you” or something like that… I hoped it would be MUCH better than HSM but… no..

Yeah I hated how it finished with the song, I hoped there might have been some dialogue a the end. I think they did it so you would want to see camp rock 2 but thats going to take more than a year. I cant wait that long.

i agree w/ everything u said! i felt that it was rushed a little and that they showed too much of some characters and not enough of others. i did like the song and dance numbers though, and i did like it, it was much better than HSM. i just wanted to see more. i was bothered that it ended w/ the song.

i was sad i wudn’t be able 2 watch it being in india.. but now i think.. maybe i DONT WANT TO watch it at all! but i cant believe tht its a JONAS BROS movie ppl didnt like!
anyway.. i hate demi.. so, maybe it had 2 turn out this way..
i jus hope the hannah montana movie wont be this bad.. :(

the reason tess stole the song book was not because she was gonna steal a song, but because she overheard shane singing mitchie’s song and talking about her. tess remembered how mitchie gave them a little sample of that song when she showed up in their cabin. tess doesnt want mitchie to win final jam OR get to record with shane and thats why tess makes mitchie and caitlynn “steal” her bracelet

the movie was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! they all worked soooooooo hard!!!!!!!!!! the dancing was sooo much better then HSM!!!!!! i think it was soooo good! I THOUGHT TESS WAS GONNA STEAL THE SONG TOOO BUT who cares!!!! IT DEF KICKED HSM’s BUTT!!!!!! haha :-) i thought it was really REALLY COOL that they preformed songs not just randomly singing! and the viarity was way better then HSM!!!!! and last but not least, this movie has the JONAS BROTHERS in it!!!! whats not to luv!!!!
and one last thing, i dont know if you guys heard this but alyson stoner said that they resaon they took the kissing scene between Joe and Demi was because Demi was getting THREATENED!!!!! i kno we all LUV JOE JONAS but thats just STUPID and CRUEL to do to someone!!!!!

i also thought there should have been a kiss at the end, or they should have shown the canoe ride he asked her on… i think it would have tied the movie more together…
i loved it so much, i just thought the end was lacking… :))

I agree with everything you said. As much as I LOVE Joe Jonas, I think he was a bit of an over-actor. I couldn’t really understand his emotions or what his thought process was. He would give Mitchie a huge attitude one second, then be a sweetheart the next. I understand he’s learning, and I still think he did a great job. I think the entire movie was just really sloppy.

Camp Rock was so-so in my opinion. Nothing really outstanding about it. It was just another Disney-mold movie.
The Jonas Brothers are the new Disney puppets, but in my opinion, they are above Disney and they have real potential. Nobody is going to take them seriously unless they go to a REAL record company.
Tess was basically Sharpay minus a male sidekick. Mitchie(who names a girl Mitchie?) is pretty much Gabriella, and Shane is Troy. I think that the movie focused on Tess a little too much, and there are only about 4 or 5 short scenes out of the whole movie that focus on Mitchie and Shane’s relationship. Also, did you notice that he never even said her name? Did she even tell him her name?
The movie was promoted WAY too much in my opinion. When will Disney stop cramming this stuff down our throats? How did they go from movies like Snow White and Bambi to Camp Rock and HSM? They just don’t know when to stop.
Camp Rock gets a 2.5/5 score from me. While not horrible, it completely lacks any originality.

i agree it was rushed and i also thought it was a bit fruity, but you said he fell in love with mitchie when he didn’t really fall in love he just liked her they didn’t even kiss so there deff. not in love you can like someone after a feww days, duhh lol

You missed two other things to nitpick about.
1. The acting was horrendous. Just because you are a fan of someone, doesn’t mean they can act. See Elvis Presley.
2. The Jonas Brothers sound like a high pitched whine. Absolutely terrible.

It needed a better ending, but other than that i really liked it!
